Bruce Onobrakpeya (born 1932) is one of the most important Nigerian artists of the 20th century, a pioneer of experimental printmaking in Africa. His works, nurtured by Urhobo culture and spirituality, blend Western techniques with African iconography to create a unique visual language recognized internationally.
This large-format experimental plastocast (deep etching) print depicts a dense procession of ritual figures in richly adorned costumes. The frontal and monumental composition, in ochre, green, and black tones, evokes the solemnity of traditional African ceremonies. The work is pencil-signed and annotated by the artist.
