Andrei ZADORIN (1960) - Portrait of a Young Peasant Woman with a Basket
Andrei Zadorine (born 1960) is a contemporary Russian painter whose work is part of the tradition of expressive realism. His portraits, of great psychological intensity, are distinguished by rich pictorial material, dark backgrounds, and Caravaggesque lighting that gives his characters a striking presence. His works are present in many private European collections.
This oil on panel, dated to the 2000s–2010s, depicts a young peasant girl, full-length, wearing a white apron, holding a basket. The dark background with warm reflections, the light that sculpts the face and clothing, and the child's serious gaze give this work an atmosphere that is both intimate and monumental. Presented in a black American box frame with a gold fillet.
